Apple iPhone, Apple TV announced

No more countdown, MacWorld San Francisco 2007 is over, and my beloved Apple just launched a nuclear war . No kidding, Steve Jobs dropped a bombshell when he officially announced the Apple iPhone this morning – the combination of three separate products: a widescreen video iPod, a revolutionary phone, and a breakthrough internet device!

Man, I’m going wild now – look at this, freaking beauty and stylish. When I read the specifications, dude that rockz! Let’s see what we’ve got here.

  • Screen size: 3.5″ Widescreen 320×480
  • Input: Multi-touch (who need stylus and keyboard anymore?)
  • Operating System: Mac OS X
  • Storage: 4GB or 8GB
  • Connectivity: GSM Quad-band, Wi-Fi, EDGE, Bluetooth
  • Built-in: GPS, Google Maps, Safari, Mail, Visual Voicemail, Widgest, iTunes sync, …
  • Camera: 2 Megapixels
  • Battery: 5h for video, 16h for audio
  • Thickness: 11.6mm ~ 1.2cm (damn slim phone!)
  • Weight: 135 grams (!)

iPhone will be offered exclusively through Cingular in the US in June, and will come to Europe in Q4 2007, and Asia in 2008. Pricing: $499 for 4GB model, and 599$ for 8GB model (both with 2 years contract).

It’s hard to say how awesome it is – Gosh, iWant

Besides iPhone, Apple also annouced several new things:

Apple TV (formerly known as iTV)

Apple TV now supports both Mac + PC with Wi-Fi 802.11 wireless, 40GB hard drive for up to 50 hours video, and Apple Remote; can play almost all the popular video/audio formats. Of course, you need to buy the HD TV yourself

Apple Airport Extreme (new version)

Impressive features: AirPort Extreme uses next-generation 802.11n wireless technology and features multiple antennas, up to five times the performance and up to twice the range of 802.11g wireless networks!. It also features USB for printer sharing, supports for attaching a shared hard drive, and three LAN Ethernet ports… – so much better than previous version of Airport

And one more thing, Apple is going to drop “Computer” from their name. Apple is now “Apple Inc.” , no more “Apple Computer” – There will be only one and just one Apple company from now on. “I skate to where the puck is going to be, not where it has been” (Wayne Gretsk). Congratulations, Apple!

I just don’t see any details about Leopard and new iWork; but the time will come when Steve Jobs surprises us again. Thanks Apple for the insanely great iPhone. It could take me years to have a hands-on experience with it, now if only I live in CA

My fav blog Nicholas Carr has a nice blog contrasting Steve Jobs and Bill Gates after Apple introduced iPhone. However, I found those comments for that post are even more interesting and worth reading.

Interesting

  • admin says:

It looks like Apple (currently) gives customer no other choices but to stick with Cingular But things definitely change next quarter, hopefully it goes in right directions

  • PG says:

Cingular must pay a hefty sum for the exclusive right. It will be extremely unlikely that there’ll be any chance to other carriers
