Amazon Kindle – calling all professional readers

kindleBooks aren’t dead (and they will never be), they’re just going digital ♥ This week, Amazon just announced their wireless portable reading device Kindle. Kindle is simply a ‘electronic paper’, which definitely is a must-have device for all professional readers. Let’s look at the fantastic features of Kindle.

Paper-like Screen: revolutionary electronic-paper display provides a sharp, anti-glare, high-resolution screen that looks and reads like real paper.

Wireless Access: but unlike wifi, you don’t need any hotspot; using 3G network as advanced cell phones, content will be delivered wirelessly to your Kindle for free

Size does matters: only 10.3 ounces and pencil thick, Kindle is lighter and thinner than typical paperbacks, and fits easily in one hand.

File types: Kindle supports documents, pictures (.JPG, GIF, .BMP, .PNG), audible (.aaa), music (.mp3). You always can plug extra SD Memory card to store as much as you want.

kindle4.jpgKindle store: You can shop the Kindle Store wirelessly right from your device, allowing you to try, buy, and start reading your purchases within a minute. Your books are also saved in online store in case you want to re-download.

Subscription content: nightly delivered while you are sleeping so you have the news before it hits the street.

Keyboard: simple and neat QWERTY keyboard

Bookmarks and Annotation: By using the keyboard, you can add annotations to text. And because it is digital, you can edit, delete, and export your notes, highlight and clip key passages, and bookmark pages for future use.

Built-in Dictionary: Kindle includes The New Oxford American Dictionary with over 250,000 entries and definitions, so you can seamlessly look up the meanings of words without interrupting your reading.

Wireless Access to Wikipedia: you know what to do when you get there

kindleAdjustable Text Size: 6 sizes to choose from, meet all your expectations.

Long Battery Life: with wireless turns off, Kindle can be used for reading for a week or more before recharging.

Easy and Convenient: needless to say, just like your book – pick and read – but imagine you can carry 1000 books along with a click away Don’t argue that you can also bring a laptop for reading ebooks …

You should watch the video demonstration of Amazon Kindle:

Some negative but improvable points:

  • Pricy: 399 $
  • Design: fairly ugly I would say, I’m into beauty but Kindle doesn’t offer that much
  • No PDF support (but there’s work around to convert PDF into Kindle compatible type
  • Only shipping in US currently

kindleSeat back, relax in Starbuck, download books wirelessly, read them, bookmark, and read again on the way back home Gosh, I have a really good feeling for Kindle; it changes what, when, where and how you read books. So far, users’ feedbacks are extremely positive. From Neil Gaiman, author of Stardust: “It’s like paper and it’s very interesting. It’s very, very crisp. Very functional. Very readable.”

♥ This device will make a perfect gift for Christmas ♥

Last month, Sony launched their Reader device sharing the same concept with Kindle, but Kindle seems to be a better choice.

Plus ponit for Sony Reader: can read PDF immediately But it needs Sony Software to sync errr…, and its price of 350$ is another turn off

Kindle looks so ugly compared to Apple’s products.

U r right, Kindle has an ugly look since it’s just the chapter one of eBook readers, there will be more better devices to come.

5 years ago, when 1st generation of iPod also came out with same price (399$), look at how it redefines our music hopefully Kindle could become the iPod of eBooks then.
