Best Asian Movies in 2006

I feel that I’m free during the last few days in 2006, so I spend time to sort out which could be the best Asian movies in 2006. Apparently, more and more great movies are produced from China, Japan, Hong Kong, Korea, and Thailand. It’s hard to believe that someone doesn’t like Asian masterpiece like Infernal Affairs Trilogy or Chan-wook Park’s horror series. Now, if we only count on year 2006, which movie will you nominate? Below are those movies I picked as the best Asian movies, in no particular order.

1. Daisy

Hye-Young (Jeon Ji-Hyun), a street painter is caught between two opposite sides, a professional assassin and an Interpol agent. The film is beautifully shot, and Jeon Ji-Hyun is charming as usual

2. Fearless

fearless

Great martial arts, solid and entertaining Chinese action drama movie by Jet Li – you don’t want to miss this film

3. Dog Bite Dog

Pang Jr., a young killer from Cambodia, arrived Hong Kong to assassinate the wife of a judge. But once Pang finished his job, he got into a misunderstanding with his agent and was left astray on the city’s unfamiliar streets. The two men became like two wild dogs to attack each other, neither one wanting to stop until the other side is dead.
The movie is exactly like what its title reveals, a violent and bloody movie indeed.

4. Art of the Devil II

devil3devil4devil5

Art of the Devil I and II (or Long Khong) are the most horror film from Thailand during those years. I happened to have the uncut version, and I could say this movie is extremely gore.

5. Death Note

deathnote

If you are a big fan of the original Death Note manga like me, you may want to see this movie. A battle between the world’s 2 greatest minds Light Yagami and L makes the film very entertaining. The 2nd episode is around the corner as well.

6. The Banquet

Not a superb movie, but it is definitely worth checking out

7. Exiled

exiled

I saw this movie few days ago, an outstanding Hong Kong movie with nice soundtracks about honorable gangster guys who can live and die together.

8. Rob-B-Hood

RBH

Jackie Chan, Louis Koo and an adorable kid played together in a spectacular movie with never ending jokes, fantastic actions, and well-written scripts. This movie is highly recommended

9. Wo Hu (or Operation Undercover)

wohu

Wo Hu – Ngọa Hổ in Vietnamese, or Ngor Fu in Cantonese – is newly filmed in Hong Kong. If you saw Infernal Affairs before, you may find some similarities in Wo Hu. But this movie has something else; something made it interesting and entertaining. I watched this movie because I saw my favorite actor Eric Tsang
“I’m afraid that sending 5 or 10 in is not enough.” – “So send thousands of us in!”

10. A Battle of Wits

I reviewed this movie before, so I make it short this time: a masterpiece

11. Curse of the Golden Flowers

See my preview last time for more details – just another gorgeous movie directed by Zhang Yimou.

12. The Host

host2host1

I started writing this article right after I finished watching “The Host”, no wonder it was the best selling film in Korea for this year The host of the title is a mutant monster that climbs out of the Han River and begins to devour people left and right. More specifically, the film concerns the protagonist’s attempts, with the help of his family, to rescue his daughter, who has been kidnapped by the creature. And they also found out something else relating to the government. The rest you should discover yourself, you won’t be disappointed!

The article is a way too long, but it should have enough those best Asian movies in 2006. Since I couldn’t watch all the movies out there, feel free to add those that you know. Asia could go even beyond Hollywood in making amazing movies
Oops, there’s one more thing; in case you’re finding English subtitles for Asian movies, look no where else but to visit kLOOFy.net

Article ends here, perhaps you want to share it!

Hi Hisashi, it looks like we’re sharing the same passion on Asian movies I agree with you in almost all the films mentioned on your list, except “Daisy” and “A Battle of Wits”. Instead, I found “A Battle of Wits” is a decent one.
Anyways, it doesn’t matter, I’m waiting for more Asian movies rolled out this year
